Mid- Columbia MINIs of Central Washington State
Permalink Reply by Gary on December 22, 2011 at 10:03pm I plan to go and follow the same route I took last year.
I went thru Pilot Rock, OR to Burns, OR then into NV thru Winnemucca, to Battle Mountain, and spent the first night in Austin. I went thru snow and lots of rain, the town of Burns was surrounded by water. I woke up with an inch or two of snow in Austin. It was a long ride the first day, but it made for a short drive to LV. From Austin I went thru round Mountain, to Tonopah, to Scotty's Junction, to Indian Spring then on to LV. Last year's event was in May, this year it is in June, so the weather should be better.
The Vegas group puts on a great event with many top notch vendors. If you can I would strongly recommend it!

Permalink Reply by John Friend on December 29, 2011 at 1:22am Gray, the mileage is almost the same as the Idaho route but 2 hours longer. Now I know the area through Oregon can be can not be reflective of map quest times I take it the same apply through the Nevada section? I can't see that route of yours taking 17 hrs? any input?
Permalink Reply by Gary on December 31, 2011 at 3:52pm Well, as you know:
1-computers are not always right,
2-it depends how you drive (as well as what you drive),
3-it depends if you want to stay on the interstate, or take the road less travelled.
I took the Idaho/Jack Pot, NV route the previous year and it was pretty much a straight drive, not necessarily a "Mini" drive. l truly enjoyed the other route much more and the seat time if longer was not noticeable. The drive from here to Burns, OR was GREAT. Also, not going the conventional route meant even less traffic (traffic... haha). I recommend a drive down to Burns or even just part of the way to Burns to get a hint of what I am saying, very good roads and beautiful view points.
Happy New Year John!!

Happy New Year

Permalink Reply by Gary on January 1, 2012 at 6:34pm Well that I don't know, as it was my first time on them, they probably for the most part the same as the way thru Jackpot, NV to LV. The exception might be the road into and out of Austin, NV, but you need to remember I did not have a co-driver or any other Mini's with me to tell me the road was this or that. As you know when you are in a zone and on runflats you get bounced around a little (and sometimes a lot).
This year I will have my new Michelin Pilot Super Sport's under me...I can not wait to try non-runflats on my Mini.....I hear it's a wonderful experience!!

I hope we can make this, it depends on if I wantt to pull the triger on a new couple or wait for the new engine.
